Letter To the Editor of The Intercounty Leader, PO Box 490 Frederic, WI  54837

The February 22, 2023 Inter-County Leader included Norm Petersons story “Stuck in the sandbox of astrophysics”.  Peterson’s story explains his internet researched likely Big Black Book influenced take on astrophysicists’ explanation of the Big Bang for how the cosmos came to be as “a big fire cracker going off”.  He then rambles on about his own version of the story of the cosmos, which we should buy since he bets “If we do not believe in God, when we die we spend eternity without him” and then seems to hint that atheists might be linked to killing babies. Fortunately I stopped buying that sort of trash talk long ago, and prefer to think for my self when it comes to the big picture.

My suggestion might be that we all wash some of the sand out our mouths and off ourselves, before before we go around telling other people what to believe or suggesting we know best about where they will end up.  My guiding philosophy will continue to be backed by a healthy dose a skepticism, especially in regards to duds like Mr. Peterson’s latest.  And I plan to continue to keep the doors to the pews closed and remain outside to spend my days of rest enjoying the only paradise I have known, the planet Earth.

I agree with Peterson that the planet and its people are definitely not doing so well.  Prayers to God may give some people hope about fixing our messes, but it seems to me that figuring out how to get along with all the creatures we share the planet with will go a lot further in making our current planet paradise a nice place to live today, and maybe even for all the babies of the future.

Feel free to print a copy of my creative drawing attached showing my take on Peterson’s story that I free thinkingly thought a good caption might be ANGRY GOD FEEDS JON THE BLASPHIST TO GATOR.

Hm, Jack Gator seems to be stuck in the muck of mythology.

Interesting timing with reading The History of God. Sounds like he did as well and is opting for God. I am not sure I see him blaming atheists for killing children. It seems more likely that he is talking about the child trafficking and the selling of organs for transplant. I could be wrong; it was a rambling article. I agree though, writing an article in a newspaper in a way that insults the way others see the world is not good form.

Anonymous, thank you for sharing your take on the tale. I did reread the Gator tale and with your own reminder, you made me aware that perhaps I took the Gator's tale, in the wrong direction, but maybe the tale took me where I needed to go. Some times perceived insults might just be the trigger I need to see things in new ways. So perhaps another version of what I learned from the tale is do. And for Bob, it might be that I am the one who was stuck in my own mythology. Maybe that is the real power of the myth. Oh well life stuck in my own sandbox, can be frustrating, so maybe I need to get outside and play more.
